What is Latisse™?
Latisse (bimatoprost) a topical prescription product from Allergan (the makers of Botox and Juvederm), is approved by the FDA to stimulate eyelashes to grow longer and thicker. It is only available through medical providers.
Latisse has been available for many years as a prescription eye drop to treat glaucoma. It was discovered to also stimulate eyelash growth in patients who were using it. Although the exact mechanism of action is not fully understood, Latisse™ appears to increase not only the number of hairs during the growth phase but also the duration of the growth phase; producing longer, thicker, darker lashes.
How do I use Latisse™?
Latisse™ is applied each night after you cleanse your skin of all facial products. Contact lenses must also be removed. Place one drop of Latisse™ on a Latisse™ applicator and apply to base of lashes, just like you would eyeliner. Dispose of the applicator and repeat process on the opposite eyelid. Contact lenses may be reinserted 15 minutes after application. Its that quick and easy!
How long before I see results?
Patients may start seeing results as early as four weeks with full results occurring at 16 weeks. The results are gradual over time.
What will happen if I stop using Latisse™?
If you stop using Latisse™ it is expected that your lashes will return to their pre-treatment appearance over several weeks to months.
What are the possible side effects of Latisse™?
The most common side effects associated with Latisse™ are itching and/or eye redness (approximately 4% patients). Other less common side effects may include eye irritation or dryness, redness of the eyelids and skin darkening at the area where Latisse™ is applied (lash line).
Who should not use Latisse™?
You should not use Latisse™ if you are allergic to one of its ingredients (bimatoprost, benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium phosphate, dibasic, citric acid, sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid), or if you have an active eye condition (including an eye infection) or broken, irritated skin on your eyelid. Your free consultation with our medical provider at Sculptured Youth can help you decide if Latisse™ is right for you.
Is Latisse™ safe?
Latisse™ is FDA approved to be safe and effective in the treatment of hypotrichosis (inadequate or not enough eyelashes). The FDA reviewed clinical study results to verify the identity, potency, purity, and stability of the ingredients, and demonstrated that the product is safe and effective for its intended use when used as prescribed to grow longer thicker darker eyelashes.
